Did you ever start down one path, realize it wasn't for you, and find a much better one up ahead?
Like instead of you reading my Web site, I thought you'd be reading my syllabus. A long-time
lover of language, I went to graduate school to get my PhD in English. And though
I loved 19th century women's domestic fiction more than anything, after
earning my Master's, I discovered teaching just wasn't for me.

My office: I must be surrounded by bright colors to function.

Ah, Italy. My husband and I in Florence in our honeymoon.

So I decided to see where else writing
could take me, and I discovered I loved
journalism. A freelance journalist since 1999,
I've written for dozens of publications, starting
with my local community paper and working
my way up to national magazines. Though I
write on a wide variety of topics, my two areas
of specialty are health/fitness and home/garden.

I also work as a scout and produce and write stories for Better Homes and Gardens and their family of special interest newsstand publications. I'm always on the lookout for tastefully decorated interiors and gardens in the Greater Cincinnati area.

I'm lucky in that my personal interests fuel my writing. I love to do most of the things I write about, like garden, tackle DIY decorating projects, design and sew things, exercise (I've been a runner for 13+ years), and do Pilates (I'm an instructor). A former gymnast, I also judge gymnastics and have been known to tumble in the backyard on occasion. I currently live in Cincinnati with my husband, two cats, and a baby on the way.

And since I still love 19th century women's domestic fiction and just know that modern women would dig these books if they only knew about them, I decided to start a Web site. Find that site at http://www.19thcenturychicklit.com.
