I'm excited to announce that my first book, Sew Retro: 25 Vintage-
Inspired Projects for the Modern Girl & A Stylish
History of the Sewing Revolution, is currently
in the works! It will be published by Voyageur
Press in July 2010.
Part narrative history, part project book,
Sew Retro is for the modern girl who
finds creative inspiration in all things
vintage. In addition to offering 25
fun, retro-inspired projects Sew Retro
also tells the story of sewing over the
last 150 or so years, from the invention
of the sewing machine in the 19th century,
through the flapper fashions of the
20s, the creative thriftiness of the 30s and
40s, the swank and glamour of the 50s, the fun
and funk of the 60s and 70s, and finally arriving at the hip, re-defined domesticity of the modern age. The book's clearly written instructions and diagrams show the reader how to make attractive vintage-look skirts, purses, bags, home décor accessories,
storage pieces, and other great projects. It's filled with gorgeous photography, along with charming vintage ads, images, and illustrations. Plus, it features Q&As with some of today's most talented fabric and pattern designers, such as Amy Butler and Betz White.
